Dash Fuel Gauge kapoot

I've ordered and installed an aux. fuel guage after replacing the sender. It still don't work only this time the needle deflects to its max. I've confirmed my three connections (+, |I-, sender ) as correct. I can only assume the range of the aux. gauge is incompatible with the range of the sender. Can anyone suggest a compatible guage for this LT 2004 year?

Aparently,---according to a clever guy on this forum---relay number 42 can cause temperature gauge ---I spelled "gauge" right this time--- faults if this relay gets damp. I've looked for this relay but can't find it. I've got the LT35 panel van 2004 VIN: VW1ZZZ2DZ5H (13045) if that's any help.
